Matthew Murphy
Matthew Murphy, MS, LCMHC, LCASA, NCC, (pronouns: he/him) is an experienced counselor who works with children, adolescents, adults, and parents as they encounter familial changes, transitions, self-esteem issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and difficulty regulating emotions. Matthew enjoys utilizing a person-centered and holistic approach, while incorporating aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy, compassionate inquiry, motivational interviewing, and emotion-focused techniques. Matthew has experience working alongside families and children, independently and through family therapy, to assist families in their mental health goals.

Matthew has experience working in high levels of care within residential addiction treatment centers for adult men and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Centers for co-occurring substance use and mental health concerns. During his time working in an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Center, Matthew was able to start and maintain a men’s group for men and fathers coming home from incarceration to help rediscover their sense of self and reintegrate into their community. He also has extensive experience working in a private practice setting here in Charlotte, working with kids, teens, and their parents as they cope with challenging family dynamics.
Matthew helps clients realize the power they already have within themselves and unlearn maladaptive patterns through self-awareness, building resilience, utilizing practical strategies, and re-discovering their sense of self-confidence collaboratively throughout the therapeutic process.
